I don’t know how long I had been laying there but I didn’t care. My whole body ached and I couldn’t move. I could hear a voice though, “Don’t worry, she’s going to be alright,” Said one, “She stopped bleeding now and the other one woke up,” Said another. It was then that I heard it, “I-I...” It started as a low whisper, a weak voice trying to speak, “I have to know if he’s alright…”  She trailed off, unable to finish what she had started. But I recognized the voice, it was Ruby, Ruby was still alive. I tried to get up, I could, but it hurt all over. I looked beyond myself and saw Ruby. She was lying on a blue blanket next to a fire; she had bandages covering her wound that stopped the bleeding and was barley breathing.

But there was someone else, a smaller one with large red ears. She had short tail that ended in a red plus symbol and red paws; her fur was cream except for her markings including two circles where her cheeks where, each a plus symbol marked as well, her eyes where pink and she had a pair of large green goggles just above her eyes. “Well, look who woke up,” She cooed to me, “Remember me, Daichu?” I knew I did, or at least I once had. Her voice was familiar and somehow I knew that look she gave. But something was missing, what was it?

“Guess she doesn’t remember us, eh Tear?” Was a voice from behind. I knew that was what was missing. I closed my eyes shut and thought, I thought hard. Tear was the first ones name, what was the other one? I knew it was there, somewhere. “Dusky!” I finally blurted out, had I gotten it right? I guess I did because the next thing I heard was this, “Well, looks like she does,” Concluded Dusk. Yes, I recognized him now, like the other one, from somewhere in my past.

Dusk was black and looked like a dog with silver stripes on his back, he also had a kind of covering over his head that was the color of silver; his eyes were strong, yet showed one that knew pain and hatred. He turned to the little one he had called Tear and growled, “How is she going to be?” Tear’s gaze turned moved from mine to Ruby and so did Dusk’s. “She’s going to be fine, just needs to rest,” Was Tear’s reply, “And so will you Daichu, you just need to rest too; you broke your ankle.” I then noticed my ankle was tightly secured by white bandages. I believe Tear had done this, and so had Dusk.

I sat back down and Dusk handed me some berries, “Here, you should eat Daichu,” I took them and looked at him intently. He smiled, I smiled back; I looked around to see Tear try to feed Ruby as well. Then it surged in me, something I had to know before anything else. “Why are you helping us?” I asked loud enough for them to hear me. “I don’t know, Sh-, I mean ‘He’ disappeared one day and so we were on our own, “ Answered Tear, “He was going kind of nuts before that too, he carried this weird black collar and seemed dazed all the time,” Was the conclusion Dusk gave. I wondered… ‘He’…?

I didn’t ask anymore questions after that, it was clear they didn’t know very well themselves. Besides, it was clear they were trying to be friends, so it was alright with me. The more I found out about my past the better and it looked as if they had known him in the past. I eat the last berry and got down to sleep. This time I didn’t have a dream.

I heard a caught which awoke me from my slumber, it was Ruby. I scanned the area, Tear had left in search of more berries and Dusk was keeping gourd. I got up and walked towards Ruby, my body didn’t hurt that much now. When I reached her I sat down by her side. She was breathing stronger now, that was good. I placed the blanket over her as she seemed cold and her eyes opened slowly. “D-Daichu… Is t-that you…?” Ruby asked in a weak voice, “Yes, it’s me,” I answered softly. Ruby smiled and closed her eyes once more. I settled down by her side just as Tear returned with more berries and gave a final whisper in Ruby’s ear, “I’m sorry.” I then closed my eyes as well and fell asleep for a second time that day.
